Terms of Service

Welcome to BookSlice! Thank you for using our service. By accessing or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Definitions

When we say "Company", "we", "our", or "us" in this document, we are referring to BookSlice. When we say "Services", we mean our BookSlice mobile application (available on Android and iOS), website (http://www.bookslice.app), and any associated services including AI-powered text explanations. When we say "You" or "your", we are referring to the people or organizations that use our Services.

2. Account Terms

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password.
  • You may not use the Services for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
  • You are responsible for all content posted and activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must be a human. Accounts registered by bots or other automated methods are not permitted.
  • You must have a valid Google account to use our authentication services.
  • You grant us permission to access necessary device features including storage for book files and internet for AI features.

3. Payment, Refunds, and Usage-Based Pricing

  • BookSlice operates on a freemium model: basic reading features are free, while AI-powered features require payment.
  • AI features are billed on a subscription-based model.
  • All fees are exclusive of taxes, levies, or duties imposed by taxing authorities.
  • We offer refunds within 14 days of purchase if you are unsatisfied with the service.

4. Cancellation and Termination

  • You are solely responsible for canceling your account. Instructions for cancellation are provided in our Service.
  • Upon cancellation, your content will be inaccessible immediately. We aim to delete your personal data within 60 days, though this may take longer in some cases.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for any reason.

5. Mobile App Specific Terms

  • The app requires internet connectivity for AI-powered explanations and authentication.
  • Books are stored locally on your device, and may be uploaded to our servers as backup.
  • You may import EPUB and PDF files, which will be copied to app storage.
  • AI explanations are limited to reasonable usage. Excessive requests may be rate-limited.
  • The app requires minimum Android 11.0 or iOS 15.6 for proper functionality.

6. AI Feature Usage

  • AI-powered text explanations require payment through our credit system. Each AI request consumes credits based on usage.
  • AI features are provided for educational and comprehension purposes only.
  • Selected text is sent to our AI service for processing.
  • AI responses are generated based on the context and may not always be 100% accurate.
  • You may not use AI features to generate harmful, illegal, or inappropriate content.
  • We reserve the right to limit or suspend AI access for users who violate usage policies.

7. Modifications to the Service and Prices

  • We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the Service at any time.
  • We may change the pricing for our Services, but will provide at least 30 days notice for existing customers.

8. Uptime, Security, and Privacy

  • Your use of the Services is at your sole risk. We provide these Services on an "as is" and "as available" basis.
  • We take measures to protect and secure your data, but cannot guarantee complete security.
  • By using our Services, you agree that we may process your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Copyright and Content Ownership

  • All content posted on the Services must comply with Singapore copyright law.
  • You retain ownership of all content you submit to the Services.
  • We do not pre-screen content, but reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms.
  • You may not duplicate, copy, or reuse any portion of the HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or visual design elements without express written permission.

10. Limitation of Liability

You expressly understand and agree that the Company shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages resulting from your use of the Services.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

12. Changes to the Terms of Service

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new Terms on our website and updating the date at the top of this page.
